Conservative Treatment

We believe in preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible when restoring teeth with inlays and onlays. Unlike traditional dental crowns that require more extensive tooth preparation, inlays and onlays involve minimal removal of tooth structure, allowing for a more conservative treatment approach. This helps to maintain the strength and stability of the remaining tooth structure while providing effective restoration of damaged areas.

At Vlass & Merritt Dental Care, we understand the importance of aesthetics when restoring teeth with inlays and onlays. Our skilled dental team meticulously crafts each restoration to match the color, shape, and texture of your natural teeth, ensuring a seamless and natural-looking result. Whether restoring a tooth in the front or back of the mouth, our custom inlays and onlays blend seamlessly with your smile, enhancing its appearance and function.

Vlass & Merritt Dental Care offers custom inlays and onlays as conservative and durable solutions for restoring teeth affected by decay or damage. Inlays and Onlays FAQ's

Inlays and onlays are custom-made dental restorations used to repair teeth that have mild to moderate decay or damage. They are made from durable materials such as porcelain, composite resin, or ceramic and are designed to fit precisely within or onto the prepared tooth surface to restore its strength, function, and appearance.

Inlays and onlays differ in their coverage and placement on the tooth. Inlays are used to fill cavities within the cusps (points) of a tooth, while onlays are used to cover one or more cusps or the entire biting surface of the tooth. Both inlays and onlays are fabricated outside the mouth and then bonded to the tooth during a dental visit.

Candidates for inlays and onlays are individuals with teeth that have mild to moderate decay or damage that cannot be adequately repaired with a dental filling but do not require a full dental crown. Inlays and onlays are suitable for restoring the function and appearance of teeth while preserving the maximum amount of healthy tooth structure.

The process of getting inlays and onlays typically involves two dental visits. During the first visit, the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is removed, and impressions are taken to create custom-made restorations. A temporary restoration may be placed to protect the tooth. At the second visit, the temporary restoration is removed, and the permanent inlay or onlay is bonded into place.

With proper care and maintenance, inlays and onlays can last for many years or even decades. Good oral hygiene habits, regular dental check-ups, and avoiding habits that can damage the restorations (such as biting down on hard objects) are essential for ensuring the longevity of inlays and onlays.

We are new patients to the practice and have had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Joseph Merritt. Dr. Merritt is currently treating my mom who is 90 years old and helping her with some aging gum and teeth issues. The technology that Dr. MERRITT has introduced us to has been absolutely incredible but with technology comes questions. Dr. MERRITT took the time to explain everything to us, step-by-step and answered each and every question. He took his time and made sure Mom understood what he was recommending and why. I was very impressed with his attention to detail and caring approach to each conversation. We just returned from our second visit and again can report another great experience and the communication with the practice has been excellent. Kim coordinated all the transfer of mom’s dental records within an hour, so our visits have been very thorough. Did I mention the amazing technology? It is worth repeating. I am so relieved my mom is in excellent hands and we will be returning to continue the treatments Dr. MERRITT has recommended.
Dr. Vlass is my dentist even though I drive 1.5 hours to his office. I trust his judgment and he does a terrific job with my teeth. As I am advanced in years, and he has had to deal with some sensitive conditions in my mouth with outstanding results. I highly recommend their practice.
Have you ever thought you would take the time to give a dentist a review...let alone 5 stars? Well, me neither, until now. My business is all about relationships, so I pay attention when someone else values and understands that relationships are everything too. Joey Merritt, not only gets it, he embraces it. His actions and professionalism forced me to leave a dental practice that my entire family was immensely happy with when one emergency issue was treated with immediate concern at the expense of his personal time. Prior to Joey meeting me in a bad moment, the only thing we knew about each other was that my wife played tennis with his mom. What I learned after that about him was more than enough to immediately come home and tell my family that we had a new friend and dentist for life. True story.
I LOVE Dr. Merritt! He's so kind and compassionate. He's an incredible dentist! His staff is also on the same level. I've been going there for years. I first saw Dr. Vlass, then Dr. Merritt when he joined the practice. I can't recommend them enough!!
I feel that the staff listens to my concerns when I call and they try to schedule me as soon as possible. When I am seen I am confident of their care of my teeth and dental concerns. The staff is very professional! I have been seen by Dr Vlass and Dr Merritt and both are very caring and exceptional dentists. This is an outstanding dental practice! I love my dentists!!
