Bridges FAQ's

A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth by spanning the gap between adjacent teeth or dental implants. It consists of artificial teeth (pontics) that are attached to dental crowns or abutments on either side of the gap to restore function and aesthetics.

There are several types of dental bridges, including traditional bridges, cantilever bridges, and Maryland bridges. Traditional bridges consist of pontics attached to dental crowns on adjacent teeth, while cantilever bridges are anchored to only one adjacent tooth. Maryland bridges use a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the back of adjacent teeth for support.

Candidates for dental bridges are individuals who have one or more missing teeth and sufficient healthy teeth or dental implants adjacent to the gap to support the bridge. Good oral health and adequate bone support are also important factors for successful bridge placement.

The process of getting a dental bridge typically requires two or more dental appointments. During the first appointment, the adjacent teeth or dental implants are prepared and impressions are taken to create the bridge. A temporary bridge may be placed to protect the prepared teeth. At the second appointment, the temporary bridge is removed, and the permanent bridge is bonded into place.

The lifespan of a dental bridge varies depending on factors such as oral hygiene practices, the strength of the supporting teeth or implants, and the materials used in the bridge. With proper care and maintenance, dental bridges can last for many years before needing to be replaced or repaired.
